Tsonga goes back-to-back in Marseille
Tsonga won his ninth match in a row and celebrated his third Open 13 Marseille title with a 6-4, 6-4 win against countryman Lucas Pouille.
The 31-year-old Tsonga outplayed his younger compatriot, breaking the 23 year old twice to cruise home in 69 minutes.
Pouille wasn’t poor, Tsonga was superb.
He was typically athletic in chasing down balls and hit the ball as hard as ever. What was extremely refreshing to see though was a high level of maturity. Tsonga’s shot selection at crucial times was spot-on.
This trophy triumph is likely to be enough to restore the new champion to the ATP’s top 10 rankings.
“I played great tennis all week, like last week,” said the in-form Tsonga.
“I was never in too much danger. I served very well each time it was close.”
