Cavaliers are reportedly shopping Kyle Korver
At this point, it’s unclear what direction the Cleveland Cavaliers will go next season. They don’t seem to be in a rush to move Kevin Love and all reports seem to indicate that they want to remain competitive. But while some veterans may not yet have their bags packed, Kyle Korver’s days with the team may be numbered.
According to Terry Pluto of Cleveland.com, the Cavs are actively looking to move Korver:
I hear the Cavs are looking to move Korver. He has a contract for $7.5 million this season. In 2019-2020, he also has a $7.5 million deal with $3.4 million guaranteed.
As an asset, Korver should actually have decent value on the market. While he’s 37 years old, he hasn’t really shown any signs of slowing down. In addition to that, his partially guaranteed contract for 2019-20 allows teams to take him on as a rental, and potentially clear space for the following summer if needed.
Unlike Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson, Korver still doesn’t have an NBA Championship on his resume. As a result of that, he probably feels more of a sense of urgency towards getting back to a situation where he could potentially contend. Out of all the veterans on the team, Korver is the one where a mutual split makes the most sense.
