Netball, Slamball and other sports that use a ball and hoop
When one thinks of a sport that involves both a ball and hoop, the first thing that comes to mind is basketball, but did you know that there are many different sports that utilize a hoop and ball?
Netball is a limited-contact team sport comprised of seven players per team, each team trying to score in the opposing hoop. The fundamental difference between the basketball and netball is that netball players may not move when in possession of the ball.
Previously known as “women’s basketball” due to it being a predominantly women’s sport, netball is basketball’s most famous relative and has recently seen a rise in participation among men.
Korfball started in the Netherlands is a mixed gender team ball game and can be considered a mixture of netball and basketball.
The half-court game “Twenty-one” is a game that was developed when there weren’t enough players to play a full game of basketball.
“21” can be played with as little as two players. Each player has their own score, with the winner being the first to reach 21 points. Usually, each player is their own team, never relying on any other player or teammates. The player with the ball may shoot at any time, and may collect his own rebound and shoot again.
Slamball is probably the newest of the basketball-esque sports. Basically it’s basketball with trampolines. Points are scored by putting the ball through the net, as it is in basketball, though the point-scoring rules are different.’
In Slamball, the main differences from basketball is the court; below the padded basketball rim and backboard are four trampolines set into the floor which serve to propel players to great heights for slam dunks.
The rules for slamball also permit some physical contact between the members of the four-player teams.
But none of these sports are anywhere near the popularity of basketball. Not only does it have far more players and leagues than the other spin offs, but it’s also a favorite of those off the court. It’s no surprise that basketball is one of the most popular sports in the betting arena.
Over the past two decades, with the explosion of internet, online betting and gambling has become something more accessible. Before, if someone wanted to try their hand at gambling, they’d have to get in their car and drive to the nearest casino. These days it’s as simple as clicking on a link and heading over tointertopscasino.com in order to play one of the latest games.
When it comes to sports that involve ball and a hoop, basketball’s popularity continues to grow globally and will be king for the foreseeable future.
