Could the Los Angeles Lakers best the Golden State Warriors and deprive the defending champions of history? It might seem unlikely. But heck, the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls were bested by the expansion Toronto Raptors. Odd things happen in the NBA.

And it’s that kind of peculiarity from which the Lakers will draw inspiration on Tuesday. The odds aren’t great that the Western Conference-worst 2-11 Lakers will beat the 15-0 Warriors, but Kobe Bryant isn’t counting out anything.

Here’s Kobe’s full quote, courtesy of ESPN’s Baxter Holmes:

“I’ve seen stranger things happen,” Bryant said Sunday after his team’s 107-93 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers at Staples Center here. “We’ve been playing like s—. We might go up there and we might play like gangbusters up there. You never know. “

Keep your head held high, Kobe. You never know what could happen.
